If you’re reaching that age where suddenly your cheeks look a little saggier, your chin and neck have a little more extra skin, and your mouth is a little less refined and smooth, you may be thinking that it’s time for a facelift. Aging is a natural process that everyone experiences, and the face shows the most evident and telling signs. Each wrinkle adds another year to your face definition. With time, jowls and loose face and neck skin can start to show our age, but there are ways of turning back the clock!
While there is no fountain of youth formula out there, there are anti-aging skin treatments to help minimize the effects of time on our most prominent and seen features. Cosmetic procedures, such as facelifts, are experiencing more popularity than ever before amongst both men and women. Many people see it as the gold standard of facial rejuvenation, the ultimate way to achieve a more youthful appearance with long-lasting and natural-looking results. However, don’t make plans for any facial skin treatments just yet. If you’re thinking about a facelift, there are a few things to consider before setting a date.
WHAT IS A FACELIFT?
A traditional facelift is a surgical procedure that reverses some signs of aging. This is performed by tightening the layers of the face that have lost their elasticity and pulling in some excess skin to restore a natural contour and create a tighter look to the face and neck skin. With an experienced surgeon, you can achieve a very natural-looking result.
A facelift has the power to alter and refresh a person’s physical appearance. Many years ago, a facelift was a very obvious procedure, often resulting in a fake or “plastic” appearance. With improved technologies, facelift procedures have become simpler, safer, and more affordable in recent years. The results are now more subtle, with a focus on enhancement rather than a completely drastic change. After a facelift procedure, the renewed confidence gained is a definite bonus that many patients consider irreplaceable.
DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE
While there are many cosmetic surgeons on the market, you should always think about the quality. Finding the right surgeon is the first step to easing any fears you might have about having a facelift completed. A facelift is a major decision, so you must take the time to find the right doctor. Read reviews and consult with multiple specialists to address all your concerns. Investigate your potential doctor’s qualifications to ensure that they have ample experience. Read reviews, check for board certification, and schedule a consultation to get a feel for your potential surgeon’s approach in person. Take your time finding a surgeon who makes you feel supported, understood, and confident about taking your next steps.
Go into your consultations with realistic expectations about what you will look like after a facelift. Look at before and after photos to see what the doctor’s work looks like and, if possible, talk to the doctor’s other patients. Prepare questions to ask your specialist—this is your chance to ask as many as possible. Learn the ins and outs of the procedure and make sure you are confident in your decision and feel comfortable throughout the entire process.
BE AWARE OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FACELIFTS
Cosmetic facelifts are not a “one-size-fits-all” procedure. Depending on your desired look, different options are available. At Beverly Hills Aesthetics, all of our facelift options are non-surgical and custom-tailored to meet the individual’s unique needs. Some procedures include:
- A lower facelift – focuses on the lower third of the face to contour and define the chin and jawline of your dreams.
- A cheeks lift – returns the lost volume to the cheeks and augments cheekbones through cheek fillers. Cheek fillers can also lift the face to reduce the appearance of the laugh lines and dark eye circles.
- A neck lift – tightens jowls and loose skin under the chin and diminishes neckband wrinkles and the appearance of a double chin.
- A facelift fat transfer – transfers fat from areas with excess fat, such as the thighs or tummy, and injects it into areas that may be lacking in volume, such as your face or hands.
Our Non-surgical Facelift procedure combines minimally invasive and nonsurgical procedures designed to rejuvenate and refresh the facial appearance. Compared with a surgical facelift, these techniques do not require large incisions, general anesthesia, or overnight hospitalization. This is a perfect choice for those looking to reverse the aging process but are not yet ready for a full surgical facelift.
There is also an option for a liquid facelift, a very effective anti-aging treatment typically complimented with a wrinkle relaxer. Filler is placed in a strategic way to replace lost facial volume and reposition and lift displaced fat pads and skin, if possible, depending on each individual case. The overall result is a more rested, younger version of yourself instead of a “done” look.
MAKE PREPARATIONS
Before surgery, your specialist may ask you questions regarding your medical history—as they should. Great doctors will ask questions to know which treatment to recommend and if you’re ready. They will also instruct you on caring for your skin pre- and post-procedure. These instructions may include not eating after midnight the day before your facelift and arranging to have someone pick you up or spend time with you at the facility as you recover. Your doctor may also suggest adding growth factors, retinol, and collagen boosters, as well as constantly applying sunscreen.
Depending on your unique situation, your doctor may also recommend adding complementary procedures like a high-intensity focused ultrasound skin treatment, fat grafting, or additional fillers to restore any lost facial volume. Since our facelift procedures are non-surgical and non-invasive, there isn’t much recovery time. Depending on the facial treatment, you can expect a few days of redness and swelling of the face, and taking a little time off is completely up to you.
You deserve to feel beautiful and look as youthful and energetic on the outside as you feel on the inside. Undergoing a facelift procedure can help you restore not only the natural beauty of your face but also your confidence.
