Cheek fillers are a non-surgical treatment to augment your cheeks and cheekbones. Besides plumping up the cheeks, cheek fillers can also lift the face to reduce the appearance of the laugh lines and dark eye circles. Cheek fillers restore a more youthful face or to create the illusion of a more defined bone structure and contoured face. Cheek injections are the new lip injection, more and more patients are realizing that fillers to the mid-face can restore youthfulness and in the younger population we are seeing a huge demand for high cheek bone look.
Cheeks are central to the face, helping to support your eyes and lift shadows out of the mid-face, as well as improving your jawline. They also augment the symmetry of the face, which is associated with glowing health. As we age, bone; skin and soft tissue changes occur. This leads to deflation of our cheeks (i.e. flatter cheeks) and sagging in the midface. These changes lead to the transition from the lower eyelid to the cheeks to become more abrupt, leading to dark eye circles and eye bags worsening. The descent of the cheeks also causes the nasolabial folds too look thicker. These impact of the cheek on the lower eyelids and laugh lines is a reason why the cheek is also addressed when eyebags, dark eye circle and nasolabial folds are corrected.
Our cheeks are the most prominent part of the midface. The natural cheek volume and
projection of our faces affect the 3D profile of our faces. Cheek fillers can contour the face and enhance facial proportions and harmony.
One way of describing ideal cheek proportions is to assess the Ogee curve of the face. the Ogee curve is the ideal cheek shape for a youthful appearance – a gentle S shape that creates a smooth transition from the tail of the brow to the convex fullness of the cheek and tapers towards the mouth. By using dermal fillers to help create an Ogee curve, older people will look more youthful. Younger patients might opt for cheek fillers to better define their cheekbones.
Cheek filler injections form the basis of rejuvenation of the whole face. Cheek fillers can lift the face to correct sagging Cheek filler injections are part of the Liquid Facelift, a minimally invasive and non-surgical facelift using a combination of dermal fillers and Botox (botulinum toxin). The results are lifted cheeks, reduced eye bags and dark eye circles and reduced laugh lines. The most common complement that my patients receive from their friends and colleagues is that they look more refreshed without anyone guessing that they had a little help from cheek fillers.
Who says that the men don’t get it? Men's aesthetic treatments form a significant proportion of patients in our center. In males, the facial structure and ideal facial proportions are very different from females. Cheek filler injections can be performed in males as part of the Liquid Facelift and improve their facial proportions without making them look feminine. Stronger cheekbones are a sign of masculinity, so recreating cheekbones (as opposed to fuller cheeks in females) is a popular request I get from my male patients in Beverly Hills
Bottom-heavy cheeks contribute to a rounder face shape and can be caused by genetically flat zygomatic bones, enlarged masseters, or enlarged parotid glands. In the case of the latter 2 conditions, we can combine cheekbone and chin contouring with jawline enhancement and/or facial slimming with Botox.
We use dermal fillers such as Restylane®, Restylane® Lyft, RADIESSE®, JUVÉDERM®, and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®.
Cheek enhancement can be performed surgically by inserting cheek implants. For those who do not want a permanent change and the option of easy adjustability, there are injectable/non-surgical options. By enhancing the mid and upper cheek area with a dermal-filler such as Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse, and Juvederm, or better yet your own fat, youthful contours and volume can then be restored or enhanced.
Various dermal fillers including your own fat can be injected into the cheeks. The amount of dermal filler required will vary from person to person, depending on the amount of volume loss to begin with, and the degree of enhancement desired. There are also options to have longer lasting fillers. Fat injection is the best permanent filler, is slightly more expensive initially, but provide better value in the long term.
One of the advantages of treating the cheeks is that it lifts the entire face and reduces nasolabial lines (laugh lines) and jowls. The shape of the face can be reverted to a youthful 'upside down triangle' with cheek fillers from a more square shaped face. Generally, the tear troughs (hollowness under the eyes) should be treated simultaneously with the cheeks, to ensure a smooth transition from this area into the cheeks.
Nose to mouth lines, also known as nasolabial folds or smile lines, are the creases that run from the corner of your nose to the top corner of your mouth. They are a normal anatomical feature – even children have them – but as we age, they can appear more prominent with deeper folds developing that can make the face appear downtrodden or sad. As we age the cheeks get deflated due to fat tissue loss. This causes sagging of the cheeks making the laugh lines more prominent. In this case, the best treatment is injecting the cheeks with dermal fillers or fat which creates a lifting effect and softening of the laugh lines.
