Non-Surgical Injectable Treatments in Beverly Hills

Injectables divide into two categories that do opposite things, and most of the confusion patients bring to a consultation comes from that distinction never being explained to them. One relaxes muscle. The other adds volume. Neither substitutes for the other, and the useful question is not which treatment you want but which of your concerns is muscular and which is structural.

Sam Assassa, MD founded the American Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery, where he serves as CEO and Program Director and has been President since 2006, and has directed the AAAMS Basic and Advanced Aesthetics Training in Taipei since 2013. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, founded Beverly Hills Aesthetics in 1995, and has taught injectable technique to more than 5,000 physicians and nurses across three continents.

The Two Categories

Botox® relaxes targeted muscle. Where a line appears or deepens when you make an expression, the muscle beneath it is folding the skin, and reducing that contraction softens the line. It also has uses that have nothing to do with lines, including jaw slimming, TMJ and clenching, chronic migraine, and excessive sweating.

Dermal fillers restore volume and structure beneath the skin. Where a concern is visible when your face is completely still, something has been lost or descended, and replacing it is what addresses the cause rather than the symptom.

The practical test is simple. If it shows up when you move, it is usually a Botox® question. If it is there when you are doing nothing, it is usually a filler question.

Most patients past their forties need some of each, which is covered on the Botox® vs fillers comparison.

Explore Injectable Treatments

Injectables are designed to address a variety of concerns, including fine lines, volume loss, facial contour, and overall skin quality. Because different areas of the face require different techniques, treatments are carefully selected and customized based on the patient’s anatomy and goals.

Patients are encouraged to explore the injectable options below to better understand the treatments available.

Why Placement Matters More Than Product

Injectable treatment is precise work in regions where a millimetre changes the outcome, and nearly every complaint patients bring from a previous injector traces to placement rather than to which product was used.

A heavy brow after forehead treatment comes from relaxing the muscle that lifts it. A frozen look comes from treating broadly at high dose rather than selectively. Filler that reads as obvious comes from volume placed without regard to where the underlying structure should sit.

The approach here is anatomy first and conservative by design, which means treating the muscles and areas causing the concern, leaving alone the ones doing useful work, and building across visits rather than treating to a maximum at a first appointment.

Approved and Off-Label Uses

Several injectable treatments carry FDA approval for specific indications, including frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, chronic migraine, and severe underarm sweating for Botox®, and cheek and chin augmentation for particular fillers.

Many other applications are off-label uses of approved products, which is legal, common, and well established in aesthetic practice. Which category a given treatment falls into is stated on its individual page and explained at your consultation.

Schedule an Injectable Consultation in Beverly Hills

The useful conversation is not which injectable you want, it is what you want changed, because the first follows from the second. Dr. Assassa will look at your face moving and at rest and tell you which of your concerns are muscular, which are structural, and what treating each would involve. Beverly Hills Aesthetics serves patients from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, West Hollywood, and Century City. Request a consultation or schedule your appointment online.
