Laser skin resurfacing is a highly effective cosmetic procedure that is used to make skin look healthier and more youthful. It does this by carefully removing the skin layer by layer, eliminating older, dryer and blemished skin and revealing healthier, smoother and younger-looking skin beneath.

WHAT ISSUES CAN LASER SKIN RESURFACING HELP WITH?

Laser skin resurfacing can be used to address a wide range of cosmetic issues, including but not limited to:

  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Treating brown spots, redness or discoloration
  • Improving the appearance of acne scarring, traumatic scars and surgical scars
  • Reducing the appearance of prominent blood vessels
  • Reducing the size of enlarged pores
  • Counteracting acne-related inflammation
  • Tightening skin
  • Encouraging collagen production, so that regenerated skin is healthier and stronger

If you aren’t sure if laser skin resurfacing is right to address your concerns, your aesthetician will be able to advise you at your consultation appointment.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF LASER SKIN RESURFACING

There are different types of lasers that can be used in laser skin resurfacing. These each address slightly different issues. For example, a CO2 laser is an ablative laser that is generally used to treat scarring, severe lines and wrinkles and other deeper skin flaws. Meanwhile, fractional lasers can be ablative or non-ablative, with non-ablative varieties used to treat milder blemishes and issues that are in the outermost layers of skin. Your aesthetician will ask you about you skin concerns and ensure that you are recommended to have the most appropriate type of skin resurfacing based on these issues.

DOES LASER SKIN RESURFACING HURT?

One of the biggest concerns that patients have about laser skin resurfacing is whether their treatment will be painful. Unfortunately, there’s no straightforward answer to this since every patient is different. How the procedure will feel will depend on the area, the depth of treatment and your own tolerance for discomfort. Your aesthetician will be able to provide more information.

HOW MANY SESSIONS OF LASER SKIN RESURFACING WILL I NEED?

Every patient is unique and may respond to treatment at their own rate. The number of laser skin resurfacing sessions you will need will depend on several factors:

  • The extent of your skin concerns
  • How severe they are
  • How well you respond to treatment

Your aesthetician may be able to give you an estimate as to the number of sessions that you’ll likely need at your consultation appointment but keep an open mind as this could change.

IS THERE A RIGHT TIME TO GET LASER SKIN RESURFACING?

Laser skin resurfacing can be performed at any time during the year, but it is particularly popular in the fall. This is because laser-treated skin is extremely sensitive to sun exposure, and during the fall and winter months, most people generally spend more time indoors and out of direct sunlight. However, whenever you choose to get laser skin resurfacing you will need to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, topping up as necessary. This should be at least SPF30 for the greatest level of protection against premature aging, skin cancer and to optimize the results of your treatment.
