ANTI-AGING TIPS
By Dr. Sam Assassa
In today’s society soft, smooth glowing skin represents
beauty and eternal youth; and the formula for enhancing
one’s natural beauty and preserving healthy looking skin
starts at an early age. Although we can’t erase the
countless hours soaking in the sun without the SPF,
preventative measures can still be taken now to help slow down
the aging process.
Even in our 20s, skin starts to show early signs of aging,
including fine lines, uneven skin texture, and dullness. It is
essential that we begin caring for our skin at an early age to
slow down the aging process rather than simply attempting to
turn back the hands of time in the aftermath. Below I offer
some anti-aging tips on how to care for your skin in your 20s
and 30s. There are steps we can take to ensure that our skin
remains healthy, vibrant, and wrinkle-free for longer.
Anti-Aging Tips For Your 20s
In our 20s, skin cell renewal drops by up to 28 percent;
dead skin cells are not as easily shed, and external factors
are starting to have a greater impact, leaving our skin
slightly duller. Below are some anti-aging tips for those in
their 20s to keep their skin healthy:
- Avoid sunlight or cover-up: Up
to 80 percent of aging is directly related to sun
exposure. Penetrating UVA rays damage collaged fibers and
elastin coils in your skin.
- Now is a good time to quit smoking:
Smoking inhibits oxygen from getting to the outer layer of
your skin, which causes premature aging. Additionally, the
motion of smoking over a long period of time can cause
fine lines around your mouth. This is not an appealing
look!
- Use a daily skin care regimen:
You should cleanse, moisturize and use SPF on a daily
basis. It is also important to exfoliate 2-3 times a week
to promote skin renewal on a regular basis.
Anti-Aging Tips For Your 30s
By the time you reach your 30s, skin cell turnover has
slowed down. Environmental damage from pollution, smoke, and
sunlight are starting to take a toll on the dermis, causing
collagen fibers to loosen. This causes the skin to begin
losing its tone and develop fine lines and wrinkles. When we
smile, subcutaneous fat forms ridges and refuse to bounce back
as readily as it once did. Our first wrinkles may start to
appear. Here Botox® plays important role in getting rid of
the “wrinkles in motion” and preventing them from turning
into deep fixed wrinkles. Alternatively, for those who want to
seriously and effectively rejuvenate their skin, there is the
latest arsenal in skin rejuvenation and anti-aging treatment
called “MesoLift” which is exclusively offered at Beverly
Hills Aesthetics. This amazing procedure literally erases
crow’s feet, laugh-lines, wrinkles, and tightens thin skin.
Mesolift provides the skin with the right amount of vitamins
and antioxidants to preserve a youthful appearance. If you are
in the 30-55 age group, I offer additional anti-aging tips for
keeping skin healthy:
- Maintain your daily skin care regimen:
At this stage in life, you should have sustained a daily
skin care regimen for your skin. If you do not have an
effective skin care regimen, visit your dermatologist for
recommendations on the anti-aging products and routine
which are best for your skin type.
- Let the rejuvenation begin:
Incorporate a cosmeceutical skin rejuvenation program into
your daily beauty ritual and include Glycolic acid,
Tretinoin or Retin-A, and Skin serums containing vitamins
C and E.
- Maintain a balanced diet: Your
diet should consist of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains
and fish, as they are high in antioxidants and Vitamins A,
B, C, and E. These vitamins counteract free radicals which
help the skin repair itself and produce enzymes which
stabilize collagen production and retain the skin’s
moisture.
- Moderate your alcohol intake:
Alcohol deprives your skin of vital nutrients and may
cause your facial blood vessels to become dilated. This
can lead to permanent red “spider veins” on women’s
cheeks and across the nose on men.
- Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!
Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day is the best way
to retain the skin’s water, thus keeping skin feeling
soft and looking supple.
Following my anti-aging tips, maintaining great skin is an
easy and healthly alternative to going under the knife.
