Flattery – It Will Get You Everywhere?
They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Our grandmothers used to tell us that when people were poking fun at us and making fun of us by imitating what we were doing, it was all because they wanted to be like us, or liked us, especially when it came to the little boy/little girl dynamic.
And then there is the saying that “Flattery will get you nowhere” or everywhere, depending on who you ask, or who is doing the talking. A young woman in China seems to think that flattery will be able to help her get her boyfriend back. A 21 year old woman has said that she would like to have plastic surgery in order to resemble Jessica Alba in the hopes of getting her boyfriend to reunite with her. While Ms Alba has spoken out against this, saying “I think you should never have to change yourself like that. If somebody loves you, they’ll love you no matter what,” it certainly does bring to light the social and media pressure that young women face, even in China where the media is so censored as to be virtually non-existent.
It can’t be said enough, that one should use cosmetic procedures to enhance what nature has given them, not to totally recreate the wheel. Drastic cosmetic procedures should only be undergone in the cases of extreme need. With that all being said, it is certainly not wrong to want to improve yourself, whether you do this physically, mentally or spiritually. The point of the matter is not to totally remake yourself, but to improve upon what you already have, and what life experience has given you.
It is always important to choose the people who will be in your life based upon their acceptance of the person you are, not who they think that you could be one day. If a person does not like something about you from the get go, and it is not something simple like excess body hair or excessive sweating that is easily fixed and not necessarily an integral part of who you are as a person, then it might be time to reevaluate that persons place in your life.
When thinking about cosmetic procedures, always evaluate whether you are doing this for yourself, or for someone else. If you are doing it for someone else, it is always advisable to wait for a period of time to make sure that these changes are something that you will be happy with for the remainder of your life. At Beverly Hills Aesthetics we always counsel our clients to think long and hard about the procedures that they are contemplating, and make sure that this is something that THEY want to do.
